Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

SCHOOLS OF THERAPY

SSP is suitable for children, adolescents and adults who suffer from chronic nervousness and agitation, who are overwhelmed by social situations or who dissociate. It aims to calm the nervous system through specially engineered sounds and music. SSP’s founding principle is that individuals are able to learn, connect and heal when they feel safe and calm, therefore it is most often used as a tool alongside other therapies.

Developed by Stephen Porges, and based on his Polyvagal Theory, SSP was devised after extensive research on heart rhythms and the impact of hearing. Porges found that through listening to the right sound frequencies, profound changes in mood and emotional wellbeing can occur. After your SSP listening sessions you will feel safer and your flight/fight response will be less activated. Over time, you will be better able to learn, engage and self-regulate.
