Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

SCHOOLS OF THERAPY

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is focused on finding practical solutions to help you flourish in your everyday life. It’s based on the idea that many psychological issues are born out of negative ways of thinking and adverse patterns of behaviour. Individuals are drawn to CBT because it offers achievable goal and task-focused exercises to make the changes you need.

How it works

Your CBT will start with learning to recognize the distortions in your thinking that are creating issues. You might then be asked to reevaluate those issues in light of reality. For example, you might have a fear of public speaking. CBT would draw attention to how that fear is irrational and not based on real experience but on negative perceptions of yourself.

During your therapy you will be introduced to a number of strategies, such as, using problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations, facing irrational fears instead of avoiding them, learning to calm one’s mind and relax one’s body as well as using role play to prepare for potentially problematic interactions with others.

How it can help

CBT gives you useful tools and strategies which you can carry with you beyond your therapy and apply to a range of situations that you come across in your day-to-day life.
