Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

SCHOOLS OF THERAPY

ACT promotes psychological flexibility as its core outcome, enabling you to cope better with challenging issues. It’s an effective mode of therapy for a range of concerns, such as anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, addictions and stress.

ACT emphasises that negative thoughts, feelings, symptoms and circumstances are a normal part of human living and that acceptance of these aspects is often a necessary mode of healthy living. Avoiding negative emotions and thoughts is impossible and they are often appropriate responses to difficult circumstances.

A therapist using ACT techniques will encourage you to make behavioural changes that will address repetitive thought patterns and behaviours. You will be guided towards working with your personal values and goals to promote more confident and optimistic attitudes towards problem-solving. You will also explore the premise that you are not your issues and they do not define you. ACT is dedicated to helping you to thrive despite the difficulties that life throws at you.
