EMBRACING YOUR SEXUALITY, GENDER & IDENTITY
Every single person regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity wants to live a happy, peaceful and loving life within their relationships and themselves. However, most societies have defined heteronormativity as the social and cultural norm. Individuals that fall outside of these standards are not only alienated and rejected from their communities, friends and family members but also get abominated and judged as unworthy.
LGBTQI+ persons at a young age will grow up in families, workplace and communities where they will witness or experience harassment, intimidation, homophobic bullying, discrimination, abusive or life-threatening responses towards non-binary gender identities or non-heterosexual individuals. These traumatic experiences and phobias get internalised by the LGBTQI+ person and become a story they repeat to themselves and about themselves, which leads to emotional, mental and physical health problems.
The shame in their gender identity and guilt towards their sexual orientation can cause these individuals to live a double-life and battle with extreme self-hatred, anxiety, paranoia, fear, low-self esteem, depression, self-injury, numbing strategies or suicidal.
LGBTQI+ Affirmative therapy can help individuals who want to love and accept their sexual orientation, gender identity and behaviour as a healthy and natural part of who they are. Affirmative therapists can also provide support for individuals that have a history of trauma that relates to their present-day distress and issues related to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

We aim to help our clients with new coping skills and a better understanding of how to manage individuals or situations that may cause them to be distressed, fearful or traumatised. We also help LGBTQI+ persons to enhance their everyday life by exploring new ways of processing their painful perspectives and feelings in a safe approach.
